The Mouthwatering Scallop Congee PDF Print E-mail

Let’s get us away from the tedious hours by giving a shot to the new recipe called Scallop Congee. Well, Scallop Congee should be unfamiliar for you but maybe you can recognize it with the name Scallop Porridge. This food is more preferable for a weekend lunch. Alright, let’s just go back into business. To cook Scallop Congee is not really difficult, it is a simple cooked food with delightful taste.

The main ingredient is of course the scallops. You can buy the dried scallops from the wet market, but supermarket or Chinese herbal shops, provide them for you as well. You can pick the scallops with small size for easy cook. Therefore, to try out this recipe, first thing you must do is preparing the ingredient.

The basic ingredients for Scallop Congee are:

  • 15 to 20 pieces of dried scallops.
  • ¾ bowl of rice.
  • 100 grams of minced pork.
  • Chopped spring onions.
  • Sesame oil.
  • A pinch of salt and white pepper powder.
  • 1 tbsp light soya sauce.


When all of the ingredients are prepared, you can start to cook the recipe with the methods below:

  1. Rinse and soak the scallops in water for 30 minutes. Do not discard water.
  2. Put the rinsed rice into a pot. Pour 10 bowls of water (including the water used to rinse and soak the scallops). Let it to boil.
  3. As the rice starts to boil, add the scallops and lower the heat. Cover it partially with lid and stir it occasionally.
  4. Cook it for 30 minutes to let the rice to break up. Add small amount of boiling water once a while to keep it runny.
  5. After 30 minutes, turn off the heat and place the cover lid. Let it to cool for an hour.
  6. Afterward, to serve the cook, bring the Scallops Congee to boil again and add more boiling water.
  7. Add minced pork once the Congee is boiling and stir well.
  8. Add the salt and pepper.
  9. Serve it on a bowl and drizzle the cook with the light soya sauce.
  10. Sprinkle the chopped onions on top of the Congee.
