For more households, electricity holds important part, especially for kitchen jobs. Most families are cooking everyday and they use the electric kitchen set to cook or just to make coffee or tea. With this regular frequency in cooking using electric kitchen equipments like microwave or oven, or electric stove, it can be predicted that the use of energy reaches a high level.  Thus, people begin to think to save more energy.

As example, there are several variables that will influence the comparison between microwave and energy use. These can be the price of the electricity and gas, and also the relative efficiency of the appliances involved. Commonly, a microwave is more effective at heating water and use less energy compared to the flame on a gas stove. It is because the heat wave of the microwave is focused on the liquid inside and it is not heating the air or container around it.

In particular research, it is discovered that an electric burner uses about 25% less electricity than microwave in boiling a cup of water. Even though a microwave will not save much energy or money over the stove burner when heating water, it has much energy-efficient than a traditional full-size oven when you use it to cook. According to the federal government’s Energy Star program, using microwave to cook or re-heat food in small portion can save about 80% of the energy used to cook or merely warm then up in the oven.

As suggestions, there are alternatives you can use to optimize the energy efficiency when you cook in your kitchen. First of all, you should ensure that you keep the inside surfaces of the microwave oven clean or at least of always clean it after cooking. This is important to do because it will maximize the amount of energy reflected toward your food. When you use gas stove, ensure that the flame is fully below the cookware, whereas on an electric stovetop, you should check that the pan or kettle totally covers the heating element to minimize wasted heat.

As addition, you are recommended to use the appropriate size pan whenever you cook. Typically, the smaller pan means the cheaper and more energy-efficient to heat up. It is also important to keep in mind that to save electricity is not merely focusing on cooking methods but you must consider the more important things like heating, cooling, and lighting.
